About
The short version
I've been snowboarding for 30 years. I raced FIS competitions representing South Africa, coached at every level from first-timers to national team riders, and spent three seasons logging over 200 days on snow each year. I hold a snowboard and ski instructor certification from the Polish Ministry of Sport and Education and a postgraduate diploma in snowboard coaching from Krakow's Academy of Physical Education.
Now I'm building Carving Intensive — a structured methodology for teaching snowboard carving that works with or without a coach present.
I write weekly about mastery, process, and what works on snow at canmanski.substack.com.
The longer version
It started in 1996 at Tiffindell — the only ski resort in South Africa, deep in the Drakensberg mountains on the border of Lesotho. I arrived as a ski instructor. The resort's training program required skiers to take weekly snowboard classes. By season's end, I'd bought my first board.
Tiffindell drew instructors from Austria, Switzerland, Canada, Slovakia, Scotland, France. Working alongside them gave me direct exposure to different teaching methods and training philosophies. I spent five seasons there between 1996 and 2007.
